Wi-FiというのはWi-Fi Alliancetという団体が、無線LANの接続性を確認したものに与える認定なのであります。だからWi-Fi＝無線LANというのは正確ではないんですよね。

で、Wi-Fi認証というのは無線LAN規格のうち11a/b/g/nが対象で、ニンテンドーDSはそもそもこのどれでもない11の規格を使っているのに、勝手にサービス名称に「WiFiコネクション」とか言い出したあた…りからかなりグダグダ感が増しております（一応補足しておくとハイフンが入ってないところが任天堂らしいWi-Fiからの回避策かと）。

今はほとんどの機器がWi-Fi認定取ってるのであながち間違いではないのですが、技術的にはやっぱり正確ではないのであんまり無線LANのことWi-Fiって言いたくないなあ、と
